Sea stars, urchins and more

This section showcases some of the more commonly observed marine animals - sea stars, sea urchins and others of their group. These animals are grouped together as 'echinoderms' which literally means 'spiny skin', and mostly dwell on the sea bed. Echinoderms are an exclusively marine group, and most individuals show a characteristic spiky exterior. They lack a circulatory system - no heart, no blood vessels or blood! Even more interesting is the fact that all echinoderms can regenerate their damaged or broken body parts in some capacity or another! Sea stars and brittle stars can regrow their arms, sea urchins can regrow their spines, and sea cucumbers are known to heal their wounds! This group is diverse and includes sea stars, brittle stars, sand dollars, sea cucumbers, sea urchins, and sea lilies.
